Morton Plant Mease Health Care Provides Keys to Heart Health With New "CHIP"
01/06/2005

CLEARWATER, Fla., (December 27, 2001)---Morton Plant Mease Health Care recently launched its new Cardiovascular Health Improvement Program (CHIP) to provide individualized comprehensive heart heath programs including education, exercise and nutritional information.

"Insurance is not required for participation in the CHIP program, so any cardiac patient can participate, depending on the results of an initial fitness assessment," said Ann Murphy-Hough, R.N., B.S., manager of cardiac rehabilitation for Morton Plant Mease Health Care.

Individualized for each patient's specific cardiac condition, patients with almost any cardiac diagnosis including heart valve surgery, heart transplants or arrhythmias can participate in the CHIP program. After receiving permission from a physician, patients can start the sessions. The cost is $200 per month for eight sessions, which are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

"At the initial visit, a medical fitness assessment is conducted while the patient is connected to an ECG monitor," added Murphy-Hough. "The patient is then given an exercise plan based on medical needs. Fitness goals are established and the patient is provided with guidelines for home activity, work, recreation and information on stress management and diet."

CHIP is offered at three convenient locations in Pinellas: Cheek-Powell Heart and Vascular Pavilion at Morton Plant Hospital, at 455 Pinellas St. in Clearwater; Morton Plant Mease Health Care's Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Center at U.S. Highway 19 N and Curlew Rd., Suite 310 in Palm Harbor and Morton Plant Mease Health Care's Bardmoor Outpatient Center at 8787 Bryan Dairy Rd. in Largo. For more information call Ann Murphy-Hough at (727) 298-6739.

Established in 1994, Morton Plant Mease Health Care is dedicated to improving the health of all it serves through community-owned health services that set the standard for high quality, compassionate care.
