2013 Press Releases
Morton Plant Hospital is Transforming for the Future
09/27/2013
CLEARWATER, Fla., (Sept. 27, 2013) - With the goal of meeting the health care needs of the future, Morton Plant Hospital has embarked on a transformation that will include a new four-story patient and surgical tower located on the east side of the main hospital building. Project highlights include private rooms, an additional main entrance to the hospital, a new surgical center, a new women’s wing, and new orthopedics units.

“Health care is changing and we are transforming our hospital to continue our commitment to excellent care and improving the health of the community,” said Kris Hoce, president, Morton Plant Hospital. “We must be prepared to continue serving our patients with compassionate, high-quality care, all while using the latest equipment and technology.”

Patient Tower
The new patient tower will feature an additional main entrance to improve access and offer a second entrance to the main hospital. Other features of the new patient tower will include:

• Larger private rooms to provide patient privacy and to accommodate modern technology.
• Among the services to be offered in the new tower are: surgery, women’s care, and orthopedics.
• Surgical services will be centralized to the second and third floors, including Operating Suites, Pre-op, PACU, Surgery Waiting, and Surgery Support.
• All women’s services will be on a single level for better patient comfort, convenience of visiting family members, and increased efficiency.
• A new orthopedics unit will have 51 large private rooms, built to accommodate patients’ equipment, such as walkers and wheelchairs, while also providing room for family and visitors, and space for physical therapy.
• Visitor amenities including gift shop and coffee shop in the east lobby.

Emergency Center Expansion
As part of Morton Plant’s campus transformation, the emergency room, the Cantonis ER-1, will be expanded. Originally opened in 2001, the emergency room will be adding four patient beds and relocating the entrance to the east.

Morton Plant’s $200 million campus transformation project is planned to take approximately four years and be completed in 2016, the hospital’s 100th anniversary. It is expected to add approximately 200,000 square feet to the hospital’s patient care and ancillary services space.
