Morton Plant Mease Hosts Heart Health Fairs for Heart Health Awareness Month

CLEARWATER, Fla., (January 12, 2012) – As part of recognizing Heart Health Awareness Month in February, Morton Plant Mease will present two free heart health fairs to help raise awareness and education of heart disease to achieve and maintain cardiovascular health. In addition to seminars, free health screenings will be offered at the heart health fairs including: blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), cholesterol, and glucose screenings. 

The Heart Health Fairs will take place on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the following two locations:

Aging Well Center at The Long Center, 1501 N. Belcher Road, Clearwater, Feb. 15    

  • Health screenings 

10 a.m. – Noon: blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI) cholesterol, and glucose.  (Registration required due to limited space.)

  • Seminars:  

Noon-1 p.m.: Know Your Number: Achieving and Maintaining Cardiovascular Health

Vanessa Lucarella, MD, cardiologist, will speak on the risks factors for cardiovascular disease, the latest treatment options and strategies for prevention.

1 p.m. – 2 p.m.: What to Look for In a Heart Hospital

Robert Teele, RN, patient navigator, will speak about the patient experience at Morgan Heart Hospital and what patients should look for when choosing a heart hospital. 

Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, Bekesh Education and Conference Center, 6600 Madison St., New Port Richey, Feb. 15

  • Health screenings:

10 –11 a.m.: blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI) cholesterol, and glucose.  (Registration required due to limited space.)

  • Seminars:

11 a.m. - Noon: What to Look for In a Heart Hospital

Noon-1 p.m.: Know Your Number: Achieving and Maintaining Cardiovascular Health

Marcos Garcia, MD, internal medicine, will speak on the five numbers to know to determine if someone is at risk and the major factors for heart disease that can be prevented or controlled.
