More Than 600 Participate In Morton Plant Mease Prostate Cancer Awareness Race|
CLEARWATER, Fla., (Sept. 12, 2011)- Despite rain clouds and threatening storms, more than 600 competitors took part in the second annual Morton Plant Mease Foundation Prostate Cancer Awareness Race, a family-friendly 5K run/walk that kicked off at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater.
Area winners included overall male winner, Jon Mott, 24, St. Petersburg ,with a time of 15:18 and overall female winner, Christa Stephens, 27, St. Petersburg, with a time of 18:50. In the masters category, Joe Torzok, 44, Tampa, was the winner with a time of 18:56 and Ann Lea, 43, Belleair, was the female winner with a time of 21:56.

The race was presented by Urology Specialists of West Florida, and benefits Morton Plant Mease community screenings and education services and assists prostate cancer patients who may not have the resources for treatment.
The course took runners through surrounding Belleair and Clearwater waterfront neighborhoods, and also featured a Kids Dish for children 10-and-under.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer defensive back, and prostate cancer survivor, Ricky Reynolds participated in the event, along with local radio host Ron Diaz of 620-WDAE.
The race is part of Morton Plant Mease’s recognition of September as National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Awareness events include screenings and lectures.
According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer found in American men, and one out of every six males will be diagnosed with the disease during his lifetime.
