Morton Plant Mease Triathlon Calling For Volunteers|
Sixth Annual Event to Benefit Pediatric Services
CLEARWATER, Fla., (June 2, 2011) - Approximately 1,000 participants are expected to compete in the Sixth Annual Morton Plant Mease Triathlon on Sunday, June 26, 2011. Triathlon event planners are recruiting a team of dedicated volunteers to assist these competitors as they swim, bike and run to the finish.
The Morton Plant Mease Triathlon, presented by the Skip Cline Society, kicks off at 6:50 a.m. with a 1/3-mile open water swim in the Gulf of Mexico off Sand Key Park. From there, participants will bike 13 miles over the Sand Key, Belleair Causeway and Memorial Causeway Bridges and then a 3.1 mile run finishing in Sand Key Park.
Volunteers can be part of this exciting event by assisting in positions such as athlete check-in, body marking, water station, course marshal and finish line. Volunteers will receive a commemorative race T-shirt and access to the hospitality tent. "Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization and we could not present such a big event without the hard work and dedication of volunteers," said Bryan Stanley, Morton Plant Mease Triathlon chairman.
Volunteers can sign up for a volunteer position by visiting www.mpmtriathlon.org before June 20, 2011. Athletes wanting to participate can also visit the website for online race registration. Registration fees are $80 for individuals and $100 for relay teams. The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. Proceeds from the Morton Plant Mease Triathlon benefit pediatric services at the hospitals of Morton Plant Mease.
