Morton Plant Mease Offering Free Physicals to Pinellas County Student Athletes|
CLEARWATER, Fla., (April 12, 2011) - As a service to the community, Morton Plant Mease physicians, certified athletic trainers and physical therapists will provide Pinellas County high school student-athletes with free sports physicals. The exams include checks of height, weight, blood pressure, vision, lungs and musculoskeletal system. The Morton Plant Mease Lung Center will also be on hand to offer students information on managing asthma symptoms. If a student is found to have a medical condition and needing additional treatment, the student will be referred to a Morton Plant Mease specialist at a later date.
"Taking steps to ensure good health before getting onto a field or court is the best offense in a student athlete's playbook," said Scott Anderson, Morton Plant Mease sports medicine outreach coordinator. "We are proud to team up with Pinellas County schools for another year in hopes of easing some financial burden for many families in the community." The free physicals will be offered the following dates and locations:

All student athletes are required by the Florida High School Athletic Association to complete a physical evaluation before participating in high school sporting activities. Student athletes under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or registration forms must be pre-signed. The exams done by Morton Plant Mease are complimentary, however, a small fee may be required by some schools to support their booster clubs.
