Community Invited to Celebrate Opening of St. Joseph's Children's Specialty Center

Clearwater, Fla., (January 25, 2011) ¾ Mease Countryside Hospital will celebrate the opening of the St. Joseph's Children's Specialty Center on the hospital's campus  Saturday, February 12, 2011. Community members are invited to the opening celebration between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to tour the specialty center at 3253 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater, FL.

During the free community event, guests can enjoy refreshments, visit with the physicians and medical staff and child life specialists and child safety advocates will be on hand. Activities for children will include face painting, arts and crafts, games, the teddy bear clinic, keeping kids safe safety expo, visiting with St. Joseph's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) transport team and vehicles. Free blood pressure and blood glucose screenings will also be available for parents.  

The opening of the St. Joseph's Children's Specialty Center is the latest achievement of the ongoing partnership between Morton Plant Mease and St. Joseph's Children's Hospital to provide more access to advanced pediatric care in north Pinellas. The specialty center offers physical, occupational, speech, and sensory therapy programs as well as pediatric physician specialty services for neurology, gastroenterology, endocrinology and cardiology. The center will also have convenient, on-site pediatric laboratory services for the smallest of patients.

St. Joseph's Children's at Morton Plant Mease services started at Mease Countryside in 2009 and includes emergency services, a neonatal intensive care unit and an enhanced 18-bed, private inpatient children's unit. 

The addition of the specialty center opening February 1, 2011, continues the collaboration to offer higher level care for pediatric patients admitted to Mease Countryside for inpatient medical care. Children needing pediatric surgery for additional care may be transferred to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital.
