Camp Alegria Welcomes Cancer Survivors
03/15/2010
Applications Now Accepted to Attend Free Spanish-Speaking
Cancer Camp

CLEARWATER, Fla., (February 1, 2010) – Camp Alegria is a free, three-day retreat that offers Latina cancer survivors a positive, memorable experience through a variety of educational, social and recreational camp activities. This year’s camp is scheduled for Friday, March 19 through Sunday, March 21 at Rotary’s Camp Florida in Brandon, FL.

Presented by the LUNA, Inc. (Latinos Unidos por un Nuevo Amanecer) in collaboration with Morton Plant Mease Health Care Cancer Services and the Tampa Bay Community Cancer Network (TBCCN), the camp is free to cancer survivors 18 years or older. All activities at the camp are presented in Spanish and include arts and crafts workshops, massages, beauty and health education, music, outdoor activities and lots of fun.

Oncology camps, like Camp Alegria, have been found to create a sense of wholeness, normalcy and enhance self-esteem. The camps also provide an opportunity for recently diagnosed cancer patients to meet long-term survivors from which to gain hope and support.

Space is limited and applications are due February 15, 2010.

For more information please call Gloria San Miguel at (727) 298-6606 or visit www.lunacancerapoyo.org/camp_alegria.
