Morton Plant Mease Director Receives Award
CLEARWATER, Fla., (June 5, 2009)—Janet Simon, MHA, RD/LDN, the Food & Nutrition Services director of Morton Plant Mease Health Care, was presented with a visionary award by Vision Software Technologies, Inc. (VST) for her 30 years of commitment to food service technology and software.
“We are very proud of Janet’s many contributions to the Morton Plant Mease Health Care system and appreciate her continued visionary approach to our food services division,” says Lou Galdieri, COO Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin Hospitals. Galdieri also oversees food and nutrition services for all Morton Plant Mease hospitals.
Simon is VST’s first client and has used the company’s technology and services toward menu planning, food procurement, meal preparation, and clinical nutrition. Simon created meal service models, specifically a hospital room service similar to hotel room service, by using technology offered by VST. “Janet Simon has served as a pioneer for the industry and a resource for her peers throughout the country. We applaud her 30 years of innovative leadership,” says Michael Babines, Vice President of VST. Some highlights of those 30 years include:
•In 1979, Morton Plant Mease initiated one of the first automated hospital food production systems in the country. Since that time, the hospital has served 23 million meals processed through the system.
•In 1984, Morton Plant Mease launched a diet office system to automate ever-changing diet orders, patient location details, and meal requests. This automation has saved one full-time equivalent (FTE) in each facility.
•In 1987, Morton Plant Mease created electronic interfaces between hospital information systems and the nutrition computer systems, automating flow of critical patient data to eliminate conflicts between meals and known food allergies or food-medication interactions. Since that time, the hospital has served 215 million food items with this automated patient safety system in operation.
•In 2001, Morton Plant Mease created a room service system for patient meals, eliminating nearly all second or "late" trays for patients that ordinarily occur when a patient misses the opportunity to make personalized meal choices.
•In 2007, Morton Plant Mease Food & Nutrition Services adopted new core technologies for its software operations, using a hosted Internet system to run all applications. This has saved 500 labor hours per year in IT administration.
Vision Software Technologies, Inc. serves the food service industry in the U.S. and abroad with integrated software with customized HL7 clinical interfaces for managing single and multiple-site food service and nutrition operations, including hospitals, long-term care facilities and correctional facilities.
