NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., (August 25, 2006) - Morton Plant Mease Health Care is announcing the appointment of John D. Couris to the position of chief operating officer for Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey, Florida.

“John has more than a decade of experience as a leader and innovator in the health care industry. His achievements in the areas of ambulatory care, medical imaging, as well as his experience in working with physicians and directing more than 500 Morton Plant Mease employees, will serve him well while overseeing the strategic vision and day-to-day operations of Morton Plant North Bay,” said Philip K. Beauchamp, FACHE, president and chief executive officer of Morton Plant Mease Health Care.

Couris will begin his position as chief operating officer in September, 2006. He is currently the Morton Plant Mease vice president of health services and ambulatory care – a position he has held since August, 2000. In that capacity Couris has been responsible for directing all Morton Plant Mease outpatient and imaging services throughout Pasco and Pinellas counties. “Due to his leadership of the Trinity Outpatient Center, John has a great deal of experience with the West Pasco community,” noted Beauchamp.

“Morton Plant North Bay has the opportunity to continue its mission to meet the ever growing health care needs of the West Pasco community. Working with physicians through partnership, collaboration and innovation will be key as we move Morton Plant North Bay Hospital into the future. I am looking forward to being a part of the community and to being a part of the Morton Plant North Bay team,” said Couris.

As chief operating officer of Morton Plant North Bay, Couris will be responsible for working directly with Morton Plant North Bay’s community based board of directors to lead the growth and development of Morton Plant North Bay as West Pasco’s only not-for-profit hospital.

From 1998 to 2000 Couris was the managing director of the Radiology Consulting Group (RCG) at Massachusetts General Physicians Organization in Boston. He was responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the consulting group focused on health care operations and health policy. Subsequent to his position with RCG, Couris was the director of quality management and education for the radiology department at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also served as the hospital’s manager of acquisition and materials management, and assistant manager for internal distribution and logistic systems. Additionally, he served as the regional manager of operations for the Fidelity Management Research Company located in Boston. Couris has been a guest speaker at Harvard Medical School on many occasions addressing such topics as managing radiology utilization in a new era and the Patient Archive Communication System (PACS) - a computerized system that creates digital images of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, CAT scans and ultrasounds. Couris has a bachelor of arts in psychology from Boston University, College of Arts and Sciences and a master of science in management from Lesley University, School of Management in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
