Pinellas County Student Athletes Prepare To Get In Game With Free Morton Plant Mease Health Care Sports Physicals|
Cardiac Screenings Included In Comprehensive High School Physicals
CLEARWATER, Fla., (April 21, 2006) - Whether it's football, basketball, swimming or track - Pinellas County student athletes can be sure they're ready to participate in any sport during the next school year by first making sure they're in good health. On Saturday, May 6 and May 20, physicians, certified athletic trainers and physical therapists will provide free athletic physicals to area high school students.
The comprehensive physicals will include checks of height, weight, blood pressure, vision, lungs and a musculoskeletal exam. In addition, student athletes who attend the Ptak Orthopaedic and Neuroscience Pavilion event on the campus of Morton Plant Hospital and through the screening process are found to have an irregular heart condition such as a murmur, will be referred for a free cardiac screening. An electrocardiogram (EKG) or echocardiogram (an ultrasound of the heart) will be used to measure their heart rate and regularity of heartbeats.
Free athletic physicals will offered at the following dates, times and locations:
Saturday, May 6, 2006, 8:00 a.m. to noon, Ptak Orthopaedic & Neuroscience Pavilion, 430 Morton Plant Street, Clearwater, FL
Saturday, May 20, 2006, 8:00 a.m. to noon, Palm Harbor University High School, 1900 Omaha Street, Palm Harbor, FL
